Coral and Blue Living Room

I have been working on a design project for a client of mine for a few months now and we finally finished over the weekend!  It turned out beautifully and I am so excited to share the photos with you!

This is the before and after. I think a lot of home owners make the mistake of pushing all furniture up against the walls. You can easily float the furniture in the middle of the room and it instantly gives it a more cozy feel.

The home owners told me they wanted a light and fresh feel to the space. They wanted blue and coral, and for the space to have a slight beachy feel.  By arranging the furniture this way, I have created a walkway to the back door. I never like the idea of the backdoor being a part of the living room. Now it has it's own area.

I used a mix of shades of blue in the curtains and the pillows. Then added in pops of coral.

I bought this chair on craigslist and had it reupholstered with a light blue coral patterned fabric. It turned out beautiful!

The blue curtains were pre-made store bought panels.

I then added a tan fabric to the bottom as well as a trim detail along the seam. Now they have custom made, one of a kind curtains for less!

I added these World Market bookcases behind the couch to help fill the negative space.

I filled them with personal items from the homeowner such as books, photos, and items from their travels. On the bottom, I placed baskets for their son's toys!

I used an ottoman instead of a coffee table because they have a young son. It also opens up for storage! The end tables I chose were small and very open to make sure to not close off the space too much.

On the fireplace mantle, I had a custom printable made with their wedding date and location. I also printed a beach photo from one of their trips. This way the room has a special personal touch.

On the hearth, I placed a basket that can hold extra blankets and pillows. And how cute is that starfish!? It weighed about 15lbs!

We even changed out the ceiling fan for this modern looking drum pendant. The TV console on the right is awaiting the new tv :)

I hope this room inspires you to try your furniture in a new arrangement and play with color in a fun way!

Striped Curtains

Hey guys! I have to apologize to my regular followers for not posting very much lately! I have been so busy with new clients and chasing after my 14 month old, that unfortunately the blog has taken a back seat! So this morning I have scheduled time in to write this new post on custom made striped curtains!

Aren't they so cute!? A client and good friend of mine, and I had been obsessed with all these horizontal striped curtains we kept seeing on Pinterest. So, when she asked me to make her curtains for her living room, I knew I had to use stripes! I went to every fabric store in the Dallas area and had NO LUCK! So, I decided to make my own stripes.
I bought white premade panels from Ikea (only $20/pair) and some khaki canvas cloth fabric. I cut out the stripes to the width I wanted and stitched them down to the white curtains. But, I am not gonna lie, they were NOT easy! There is a lot of math involved and A LOT of stitching! But, they turned out beautiful!

My client absolutely loves them and I love them so much that I am contemplating making some for my own living room... :)
