A Woodland Nursery For Our Baby Boy!

Woodland Nursery Before and After
Finally! The nursery is finished!!

Woodland Nursery
I am just in love with how this Woodland Nursery turned out for our little man!!

Woodland Nursery

Woodland Nursery barn door and bunting
I added these lanterns from Home Goods and this bunting banner from Nurtured Soul Designs on Etsy!

Woodland Nursery lanterns
I used a plant hanger from Lowes to hang the lanterns.

Woodland Nursery blankets
How adorable is this blanket with this little fox and raccoon, found at Babies R Us!? And the striped crochet blanket was made by my SIL!! You can check out her work via Yarn at Heart!

Woodland Nursery triangle shelves
My hubby made me these cute triangle shelves from some left over reclaimed wood!

Woodland Nursery DIY ceiling fan
This ceiling fan was part of the house when we moved in and I wasn't a fan of the brass, but once I started decorating the room and using brass accents (in the lamp and the hardware), I thought I might just leave it and paint the fan blades!

Woodland Nursery painted ceiling fan
I painted them to match the dresser and I love the way it came out! Plus it saved me over $200!!!

Woodland Nursery crib bedding
For the crib bedding, I used a brown, tan, and orange plaid flannel. The fitted crib sheet is from Land of Nod. I decided to do a teething bumper instead of a full crib bumper since my first 2 boys chewed the front of the crib. I used a quilted brown fabric and made my own piping with the plaid fabric to tie it all together!

With my left over fabric, I made this cute little blanket too!

Woodland Nursery hospital door hanger
This adorable door hanger was made by a super talented friend of mine!! You can find her custom calligraphy work and more here! She made this for us to use at the hospital on our door, and now it hangs on the nursery door at home! I just LOVE everything about this!!

Woodland Nursery
I found this little end table at Home Goods. It has a rustic finish and I am always obsessed with any furniture that has this 'X' detail!!

Woodland Nursery metal moose
How cute is this little metal moose!? Found at At Home!

Woodland Nursery pinecone deer head
This is the deer head made of pine cones that my MIL gave me! It was part of her Christmas décor, and was then used at my baby shower for décor! Now it hangs in the nursery!!

Woodland Nursery rug
The rug is from Target and can I just say this is one of the softest rugs I have ever felt!! I was so surprised by the quality of this inexpensive rug. Perfect for little ones!!

Woodland Nursery field guide wall art
I wanted to make some unique wall décor for the nursery. I made this Field Guide in photoshop and printed it on brown cardstock. I bought this wood slice at Hobby Lobby and then glued the print to it! Added some jute rope and hung it on the wall!

Woodland Nursery wall decor
In addition to the field guide, the burlap letter 'T' was a gift from my SIL, and the outdoor sign is from At Home.

Woodland Nursery be brave have courage explore
And last but not least, I really wanted some kind of quote in the room. When I came across this quote, I  knew it was the perfect one! First I thought I would order the quote from a decal company on Etsy, but then I decided to "be brave" myself and hand paint it on the wall. I know, crazy right?!
Well, I used the projector on a ladder and traced it with pencil first, then I used a burnt orange paint and a small paint brush to paint over it. I added the triangles in between to tie in with the other triangles in the room (the crib sheet and the shelves)!

Love what you see? Click on the links below for step by step details on how I put the nursery together!

Build a Nursery with Me!! Part 1

I am so excited to share this post with everyone! I am about to begin the decorating process for our 3rd baby boy's nursery and I thought I would share each and every step with you! Think of it as Nursery Decorating 101. I will be sharing everything from my decorating process, to where I am making purchases, how I am saving money, how to plan space layouts, and tons of photos along the way!

My first step in every design I do is to build a digital Design Inspiration Board. I normally choose a theme, color palette, or style and build around that. In this case, I went with a Woodlands theme.

This is the part where tons of research happens. I use resources such as Pinterest, Houzz, Decor Pad, Google, Etsy, etc. to find things that inspire me. From there I put them all together on a board to make sure that all of the pieces fit. Now I can begin building the space step by step.

Working step-by-step is so important when I am working on my own home. I am always on a very tight budget, which makes the process very slow. Starting way ahead of time is key lol. I will be sharing with you the order in which I will be doing things, along with detailed blogs on each item as they are finished, but I am going to start by explaining the design board to you following the numbers you see above...

1. DIY Deer Art: I plan on purchasing 3 white canvases and a decal sticker.
2. Barn Door behind the crib: Hoping the hubby will build me something like this from reclaimed wood, then attach it to the wall directly behind the crib as a focal point.
3. DIY Wood Art: By using reclaimed wood, stain, and decals, I am pretty sure I can duplicate this look for very little money.
4. Woodland Animal Alphabet: Purchase, print, frame.
5. Antler Curtain Tie Back: I will be on the hunt for this...
6. DIY Woodland Animal Mobile: I have never had a mobile in my babies rooms, but I saw this and thought I could just use some fishing wire, a wood ring, and some woodland animal Christmas ornaments to get the look I am going for. We shall see.
7. Dresser/Changing Table: I purchased a used dresser a few months ago thinking I would use it in my other son's room, but then ended up using a different dresser. It is just sitting in the garage, waiting to be utilized! I will be working on giving the dresser this same kind of rustic stained look.
8. Plus One fabric: I am debating on this fabric for the changing pad cover. I will probably be making my own.
9. Plaid fabric: I love this plaid too for the changing pad. hmmmm decisions, decisions.
10. Crib: I will be reusing the crib that I had in my last son's nursery. It is white with a brown base and clean lines.
11. Rug: I fell in love with this Aztec print rug from Target!
12. Animal Track Art: Print, frame, hang.
13. Rocking Chair: One of the best purchases I ever made was a gorgeous rocker, recliner during my first pregnancy. I have spent so much time in that chair and it is so comfortable! But after 2 boys, the fabric is pretty sad looking. I thought about having it reupholstered, but I may just get a slipcover. Not sure yet.
14. Wood Tree Carving Art: Frame a wood patterned paper with a heart and you and your spouses initials inside (like you would see in a tree carving). Super cute personal touch.
15. Wood Stump End Table: I am on the hunt to find something like this to sit next to the chair!
16.  Wood grain pillow: Using felt on top of a cotton pillow cover, I am going to try to DIY this one too!
17. Bear fabric: I found this on Spoonflower. I love the black and orange mix. I will be using this to make a teething bumper for the front rail of the crib (to cover up those beaver teeth marks lol) Why couldn't teething bumpers be in style years ago?!
18. Tartan Plaid Crib Skirt: Planning to make the crib skirt out of a flannel plaid.
19. Toy Box: Wood crate, add wheels, stencil on TOYS. Check!
20. Orange Baskets: I definitely want to use pops of orange here and there and I think baskets is a great way to do it!
21. Leather Pouf: Not sure if this will be store bought or a DIY project, but I love the look of leather in the space for a masculine touch.
22. Sheepskin Throw: Ikea has this for like $10!
23. Moose Rocking Horse: Another Ikea hack! This moose is $40 at Ikea, but it's red, so a little paint and voila!
24. Paint: The room will be painted in Sherwin Williams Universal Khaki. Mostly because I already have a gallon sitting in the garage...now if I can just get the hubs to paint the room...
25. Sconces: I would like to hang sconces on the barn door for a fun lighting effect, and run the cords behind to the outlet.
26. Banner: I will be doing a burlap bunting name banner from one sconce to the other across the barn door.

That's all. HA! Easy right?! Sure, if I didn't already have 2 boys under 4, and a million other projects going on! Good thing I have until March...so let's get started!

Follow along to learn how to build your own nursery! So excited to share this process with ya'll!

Langston's Nursery Reveal!

So here it is! The long awaited reveal of our baby boy to be's nursery! We are only a few weeks away from getting to meet him and I have been working on this nursery since I was 19 weeks along. I put a lot of time and detail into doing my kid's nurseries. I absolutely love to design kids rooms and this one was so much fun to do!
We went with a nautical theme and very simple color palette of khaki, white, and navy. I hope you love it as much as I do!

Here is the room when we first built the house

and here it is Finished!

We started by painting the room a shade of blue/grey on the bottom half and khaki on the top half and ceiling. We added reclaimed fence wood between the colors for a rustic touch. That is one of my favorite design elements in the room.

Then we added new lighting. This 3-light burlap drum shade light is only $40 from World Market!

Here is a photo from World Market's website. We went with this grey color burlap.

We added this fun compass rose decal that I purchased on Etsy. It definitely took time and patience to apply being that we have textured walls, but it turned out awesome!

The rocking chair was in my first son's room and we decided to reuse it in this room. It is white with grey piping.

The lamp is from Home Goods, only $29! And the end table used to be in our living room, but we recently redecorated that room, so I just recycled it!

The beautiful grey plaid blanket was $30 from Tuesday Morning and the map pillow was only $15 from Ikea!

I didn't want to do a traditional changing table and I came across this beautiful server at Garden Ridge. I placed the changing pad on top and covered it with a navy sail boat cover by Nautica. My husband and I bought the mirror at Ikea and added the rope detail (only $30!!!!).

You're not going to believe this, but I researched cribs for over a month and we finally fell in love with this one from WALMART! Yep, you read that right! It is two-toned wood, white with an amber base. It is made by a company called Baby Mod. It was only $300 and it came with a free crib mattress! It also shipped free to the store up the street!

For the bedding, I went with a store bought sheet (white with tiny blue sail boats) made by Nautica. I then made the skirt and bumper. The little blanket is from H&M, $7. The pillow is from Target, $10.

For the bumper, I went with a linen fabric and trimmed it with a blue and white rope piping. I added the monogram on the back piece for an extra personal touch!

The curtains are white Ikea curtains with grommets, $20/pair. I added the blue stripes by sewing fabric right on top! The toy baskets are from Home Goods, $14ea.

Here is a close up of the curtains. Another favorite of mine in the room.

Above the crib we used a $5 Ikea shelf with wood brackets. I wrapped the brackets with jute for a more nautical touch.

Next to the door, we needed something large to fill the space, so I made these A-Z nautical letters. They are just cardboard letters from the craft store covered in scrapbook paper!

I even found a nautical paper pack to cover the letters with.

In the walk-in closet, we have a small window, so I made this box-pleat valance and added a white ribbon stripe detail.

We also have a small dresser in the closet.

Believe it or not, this is the before and after of the dresser. We bought an Ikea Rast $35 dresser and had my friend Stephanie with Something Old~Something New paint and distress it this blue color. We then added the gold knobs and "L" brackets. Didn't it turn out amazing!!?? I am so happy with it!

And finally, the grey chevron rug is from Urban Outfitters, $90-5x7.

I am really so happy with everything and I love just walking into the room. Now we just need our baby to complete it all! Can't wait!
